National Disability Insurance Scheme
What is the NDIS?
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is an insurance scheme which takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life. The Insurance Scheme will allow participants to access the funding they need to get the care and support, based on their goals and aspirations.
The NDIS also provides people with disability, their family and carers with information and referrals to existing support services in the community.
A Participant receiving NDIS funding will have the control and choice over how and where their supports are provided, and the flexibility to change if the need arises.
Adelaide Paediatrics is committed to working with our clients and their families to meet the goals specified in their NDIS Plans.
How do I register for NDIS funding?
To register for the NDIS you will need to contact the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) direct on 1800 800 110. They will be able to provide you with information on the registration process as well as arrange to send the application out to you.
Does NDIS cover medical appointments?
Unfortunately, NDIS does not cover any services which are covered under the Medicare Scheme. With the relevant referrals you will receive a rebate from Medicare instead.
Who is responsible for the payment of services provided through Adelaide Paediatrics if my child has NDIS funding?
Practitioners at Adelaide Paediatrics are able to provide support services to NDIS participants, however Adelaide Paediatrics itself is no longer a registered NDIS provider. As such we can provide services to private-paying, NDIS self-managed or third-party plan-managed participants. This means that we are unable to claim NDIS funding on behalf of Agency-managed participants via the National Disability Insurance Agency. When your plan is implemented you will be able to discuss your preference for plan management. Depending on your allocations, Adelaide Paediatrics will invoice accordingly. The two types of plan management Adelaide Paediatrics works with are:
Plan Managed – A third party provider is responsible for claiming from your child’s NDIS funding. If you elect this option, you are responsible for sourcing a Plan Management Agency. Adelaide Paediatrics will then forward invoices on to this agency for payment of services.
Self-Managed – You are responsible for all payment of invoices. You will be able to claim back these funds from NDIA direct. You will need to pay for services on the day of your appointment with Adelaide Paediatrics.
If your child is a self-managed or plan-managed participant, we recommend supplying a copy of the NDIS plan to assist your practitioner in establishing the appropriate goals to guide support for your child.
Please be assured that although Adelaide Paediatrics is not a registered NDIS provider, our practitioners adhere to NDIS Practice Standards and are committed to providing the gold standard of service to all participants.
As many of our clients are participants of the NDIS, practitioner fees are loosely based around the fees prescribed in the NDIS support catalogue, however it is ultimately at the participant's/ their plan manager's discretion as to the appropriate category from which to claim funds; for example, Core funding or Capacity Building funding, including the appropriate line item. We can provide general and broad advice, however we recommend talking to your planner to ensure that your child has the appropriate funding to access the services you are seeking.
If your child is an NDIS Agency-managed participant and wishes to access our service, we recommend speaking with your Local Area Coordinator or Support Coordinator (if you have one) to determine whether it is appropriate and/or possible to have your funding "changed". Alternatively, we are very happy to support private paying participants.
